Livingstone, was exploring central Africa and trying to convert the various peoples that he encountered to Christianity. It is easy to forget that his was an extremely difficult and dangerous mission, visiting places that had not previously been seen by a white man. He had to battle disease and deprivations throughout his lengthy expedition.
