Rhesus is an Athenian tragedy that belongs to the transmitted plays of Euripides . Rhesus is probably a midfourth century tragedy that takes place some fifty days before the ending of the Trojan War, on the night when Diomedes and Odysseus sneak into the Trojan camp . It begins at night, with a few Trojan watchmen waking up Hector to inform him that there is some activity in the Greek camp and that they might be fleeing . This short play is most notable in comparison with the Iliad . The part with Dolon is pushed to the background, and much more is revealed about Rhesus and the reactions of the Trojans to his murder .
