قصة الكتاب :
The Thracian poet Orpheus is desperate for the death of his beloved Eurydice and decides to go to Hades to bring her back. There his song pities Pluto and Proserpina, so that he is allowed to have his woman back, but on the way from the infernal world to the earthly world he must not look back. The poet, believing he has reached earth, turns around and thus loses Eurydice. The myth then also tells of the death of the poet, who is killed by the Bacchantes, the priestesses of Dionysus, who tear his body apart. The poet\'s head, detached from the neck and thrown into the Ebro river, remains afloat and while it is carried by the current it continues to sing and invoke Eurydice. This myth was read by Dante in the Convivio in an allegorical key and even in the fifteenth century humanists like Ficino believed that this story represented the capacity of poetry to resist human violence. Poliziano, otherwise, concludes his representation with the chorus of Maenads triumphing for their crime. Therefore it is probable, as claimed by Vittore Branca, that the poet from Montepulciano did not believe that poetry and beauty win over violence. In fact, Florence, the cradle of poetry in the fourteenth century, was shocked by the events related to the Pazzi conspiracy of 1478, and consequently Poliziano considered the theory of the humanists only an illusion.
